With reference to Heads 2 (b)(5) and 2 (b)(6)

of Appendix VI (b) to the draft Estimates for 1936 forwarded

with Mr. N. L. Smith's despatch No.520 of the 13th September,

1935, I have the honour to inform you that at the present

rate of construction of the Shing Lun Gorge Dam there is

every indication that the draft provision of $250,000.00

for the second Trunk Main and of $150,000.00 for the third

Rapid Gravity Filters will be insufficient for the revised 1936 programme of work.

2. No resolution on 1936 Loan Expenditure has as

yet been introduced before Legislative Council and subject

to your approval therefor I propose to arrange for the

introduction early in 1936 of a resolution to expend on the

two sub-heads mentioned, during the year 1936, respectively

$300,000.00 and $250,000.00.

3.

Corresponding decreases in estimated expenditure

for 1937 will take place and the total estimate for the work

will not be affected.
